Who knew?
This weekend I made a point to track everything I put in my mouth. Seeing as we had company this weekend and went to the movies on Sunday, that was no easy task.
Between Friday and today, I managed to earn 19 activity points.
Between Friday and today, I managed to eat 15 of them.
Yup, I was pretty busy chewing and jumping around wasn't I?
Oh well, it was well worth the hard work. I had an awesome time surrounded by awesome friends and awesome food. (Food, that I made, thank you very much.)
In other news, I managed to run Friday morning and this morning.
I've started to include more hill work into my workouts. Hills are the ban on my exsistance. Seeing as I live in Sunny Central Pennsylvania, it's pretty hard to find a flat piece of land to workout on. Thus, I learned to embrace the little hills in my developement and ignore the larger ones. Until Friday. Friday I decided enough was enough and thus, I started working on hills.
Friday I struggled by managed to get up the 2nd largest hill in my developement. By the grace of God, my ipod said "walk" just as I reached the top. Whew, I had never been so thankful to walk in my entire life.
Today, my ipod did not tell me to walk when I reached the top of the hill, but I did anyway. For the 45 seconds to took me to walk the cut street that connected the two roads I was running on.
I didn't give myself a hard time for walking, if anything, I congratulated myself for getting as far as I did.
By the time I got to the next road, I was running again.
Sometimes in life, you just have to slow down long enough to catch up.
In other things that make me happy. Even though I did go over my points this weekend and dipped into my activity points. I had a great weekend of clean eating. Movie Twizzlers and a few M&Ms aside. I stayed away from the proccessed foods and eat clean, fresh, home made yumminess.
(and wine, lots of wine).
All and all. I cannot complain. It was a great weekend. I did well and I'm ready to face the next :)

A Friday Morning Run
So, you know how I had that brilliant idea to run last night?
Didn't happen. It was too freaking hot outside and I'm a wuss.
So I worked out in the comfort of my air conditioned basement and had a lovely time.
Well, as lovely of a time as one can have when their sweating their butt off, huff and puffing and attempting to blow that TV stand down.
Anyway....
I DID get up and run this morning and I was HAPPY about it.
Last night I redid my workout play list, laid out my running clothes and spent some time thinking about what route I wanted to take around the neighborhood. My mental block was still there, but I knew I could over come it.
When my feet hit the pavement at 5:30am, I was happy, alert and ready to take on the run.
It felt as natural as breathing or clicking the TV remote. My body felt strong, my feet felt light and mind was clear. It was just me, the pavement and the music in my ears. It was a wonderful 35 minutes.
Sure, I felt the burn. My body was a little more sluggish then usual. I could still feel the effects of my earlier stomach virus, my endurance just wasn't there. But I made it and heck, I even ran up a few hills.
I'm back in action and it feels great.
And another thing:
Thanks to my stomach virus, I'm down 2.8 pounds this week.
My goal for next week is to keep it off.
Happy Friday Everyone!

I Know
I haven't run in two weeks.
On July 1st I had my very best run so far and then life got in the way.
I had planned to run at The Shore over July 4th weekend. Unfortunately, the humidity was so nasty I couldn't fathom a run outside, even at 7am.
Then I got busy at home.
And then I got sick.
And I just stopped.
Tomorrow morning I'm supposed to get up earlier then usual for my Friday morning run. But, for whatever reason, I've been dreading it all week.
I used to love my Friday morning running ritual. I do love my Friday morning running ritual. I can remember how much I loved it. If you asked me about it, I'd tell you how much I love it. But, for whatever reason, there's a mental block.
Maybe I don't want to get up earlier (by a whole 15 minutes, gawd! torture), maybe I'm afraid I won't be good at it anymore. Maybe I'm concerned I'll be abducted by a man with a rusty, panel van ( proof, I watch Criminal Minds too often).
Whatever the reason, I know in my head, that when that alarm goes off on Friday morning, I won't get up.
So, I'm doing something else instead.
I'm going to run tonight when I get home from work. I will help myself remember why I love my runs so much. While the little piece of me doesn't want to go, the rest of me remembers how it feels to move to the music, allow my lungs to expand a little wider and my breathe to come a little deeper. I know I will fall in love with running again, the passion is there, I just forgot to fan the flame.

When There's Bigger Things to Worry About
Stomach virus aside, this week has been full of disappointment for me.
For starters, Mr. Berg has been down in the dumps this week.
When Mr. Berg and I got married he was a very successful salesman at a international company. He was top dog in his local area, his regional area and pretty much all of the northeast. It was huge ego boost for him and constant source of pride. He was the big fish in a small pond.
And while he had a good job, and obviously he was successful at it. It KILLED his social life and our life as a married couple. We never saw each other, we couldn't commit to plans, RSVP for weddings, or even make a simple dinner reservation. He just never knew what he schedule would be like, what deal he's be in the middle of or how long his work day would be.
We knew that the best thing for him to do was find a better job, even if it meant a pay cut.
Mr. Berg has been in his new job for 18 months now, he's been selling at his new job for just about 12.
He is doing a wonderful job and he's just where he should as far as sales and success goes. However, he's making less then before and there is more time between sales. In his new business he's selling a relationship and a product versus just a product. In a position such as this, it takes years to build a good book of business.
In Mr. Bergs eyes, this makes him a failure. He is not.
He is doing awesome and he's building a very strong foundation for himself.
As his wife, my job is to be the supportive cheerleader. I do it well... most days.
However, there are days and sometimes weeks, like this week, where nothing I say or don't say, do or don't do that helps. He can't be reasoned with and it's frustrating.
On top of that, since we now make less money, Mr. Berg is even more convinced this makes him a failure. It does not. Life isn't geared around how much money you make, We strive to be rich in life, not rich in material things. However, it does suck sometimes when we can't afford the fun conveniences we were used to, like $20 bottles of wine and nice dinners out and trips to see multiple movies in a weekend.
Oh well, I can cook, we can drink cheap wine and we still have Netflicks, we will survive. There are people in this world living with far less then we are. Thus, there are bigger things to worry about.
This week I also found out that again, Mr. Berg won't be around for my birthday. That's right, I said AGAIN.
For three years in a row, I have had less then stellar birthdays.
First, there was the birthday the Mr. Berg worked. I microwaved my dinner and went to bed early.
I saw Mr. Berg for 30 minutes on the morning of my birthday.
Then, there was the birthday were Mr. Berg decided we'd celebrate my birthday three weeks early because it fit into his schedule better.
Yeah, that was fun, it wasn't even my birthday Month then!
And to top it off , on my actual birthday, we went out for a crappy dinner where we were rushed because we then met his uncle and aunt for a drink since they were in town. We got home late, my homemade bread I left to rise was ruined and we went to bed far too late (with no mention of marital relations). Yay, suck ass birthday take 2.
And now this year, I'll be alone. My parents will be out of town and my brother will be working and Mr. Berg will be both out of town AND working.
Again, disappointing.
But then I think of my friend S, who just lost her Aunt to cancer. Her father is in the hospital with heart failure and her Mom is treating her like dog meat because she leaves in Virginia, not Maine.
I should be focusing on the important things. I have a family who loves me, everyone is healthy and so what if I have to spend my birthday by myself. Atleast I'm alive to have a birthday, with a nice roof over my head and money in the bank to provide for my family and give back to those that can't.
And finally.
We found our yesterday that close friends of ours are pregnant with their second child.
This was the first time I experienced pregnancy jealousy. And it's a nasty bitch.
I am thrilled for our friends. I cannot wait to celebrate with them.
But there's a little voice in the back of my head that keeps saying "That could be you." "You're going to be an old mom" "You might never get pregnant"
You see, Mr. Berg and I have put off having children twice now. Both times because of lacking finances, etc.
The first time didn't hurt so bad. The second time was devastating. Sadly, with Mr. Berg's view of our finances right now, we might be putting it off again. If that happens, it will be crushing.
I know there are bigger things to worry about. There are thousands of woman out there that can't have children, there are thousands of children out there without parents. I get it, it's not all about me.
But this week hasn't been easy and as much as I remind myself that there's bigger things to worry about. I can't help but be sad and disappointed. And I guess, for now, that's okay.

Here We Go
Stomach Virus = Over
JBerg's Body = Flabby
Recommitting Hardcore = Right This Minute
It's been a great 24 hour of actually eating healthy, lean, nutrient rich food. It's a great change from the 1 yougurt cup and 1/2 cup of macaroni and cheese I consumed both Sunday and Monday.
I didn't workout yesterday. I probably could have started a work out, however, I doubt I could have finished one. My engery levels aren't what they were. So instead of over doing it and pushing myself too far, I focused on eating healthy, staying hydrated and giving myself a chance to rest and regulate.
Tonight, I'm doing a nice cardio workout. The weights come back out tomorrow :)
I'm ready to feel healthy and strong and lean again.
I'm ready to enjoy a morning run and take pride in the fact that I did everything I could to keep my body healthy.
I ready to get back in action.
Today's Game Plan:
Breakfast: Green Monster (6:15ish)
Snack: Carrotts and 2% Cheese Stick (10ish)
Lunch: Pork Tenderloin in a Flat Out Wrap with a laughing cow cheese and peach salsa. Salad with 1 point dressing (12:30ish)
Snack: Greek Yogurt (4ish)
Dinner: Chicken Stir Fry with Brown Rice and Veggies (6:30ish)
Workout: I am planning on doing a straight cardio video but I may end up doing something with weights. We'll see how I feel toward the end of the day.
I am happy to be back on the right track. I am ready to do this.
I have so many important things to look forward to. I need to be healthy and fit for them.

Someday
Someday:
- Mr. Berg and I won't have to worry about money nearly as much as we do right this very minutes
- I'll have a oven that locks like it should.... the oven can't self clean without the lock working... booo
- The cleaning lady will come twice a month instead of once a month
- I won't obsess over my grocery list and the cost of every stinking thing
- My basil plant won't look half dead.... maybe it's getting too much sun? too much water? maybe I just can't grow basil?
- I'll live on the lake with my husband and my dogs and my cat
- We'll actually get a dog
- I'll have children and the things I worry about now will seem so small compared to what I worry about for them
- I will feel like I have it all together
- Mr. Berg will actually be home to celebrate my birthday with me
- I will remember to clean out my car, that thing is disgusting
- I'll have a kitchen with two ovens and a gas range.... oh how I wish :)
- I won't dread flying to Boston for Thanksgiving
- Organization will return to the office Mr. Berg and I are supposed to share
- There will be time enough for everything that needs to be done
- I might embrace the size of my chest
- I am thankful for all of the blessings in my life
- I surround myself with all the people that make me happy
- I take pleasure in the small things, even a clean kitchen
- I smile at the sunshine
- I try to do as much right as I can every day
- There is just enough of what we need for the moment
- I remind myself that some day the hard stuff will soften and fade
- I look forward to the little things
Back In The Saddle Again
I hadn't realized how crappy I felt yesterday until I woke up feeling better this morning.
Wow, stomach viruses and dehydration are a bitch!
While my stomach virus symptoms weren't very prevalent yesterday, I spent most of the day feeling like I was stuck inside a cotton ball.
My eyes were dry and itchy, I couldn't see very well.
My throat and nose were dry and stuffy.
I wasn't making nearly enough trips to the bathroom.
Hot Mess, party of 1.
Today I feel like a new woman.
I can see.
Everything that should be not errr..... dry, are not.
Bathroom trips are frequent and for the right reasons.
Overall, it's a good day to be J-Berg.
Dare I tempt a workout tonight?
I just might, I just might.
Last night when I finally got around to feeling better I planned my meals for the week and plotted my workouts. Having recently booked my trip to Las Vegas, and our trip South for a wedding approaching quickly, it is now more important then ever to focus on just being healthy.
It just feels good to be back in the saddle again.
