One Week to Go.....

We have one week to go on the gender waiting game. In fact, by this time next week, I'll hoping be buying some pink or blue outfits and nailing down my choices for nursery decor. I cannot wait.

Last time I was pregnant I made up this fun survery based on random old wives tales that I had heard of or were floating around the internet.

So, I decided to do it again just for fun.....

1. Heart Rate:  If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.

Baby's heart beat has been 140 every single visit.
(Same as Ryan)

Gender: Inconclusive

2. Belly Shape: If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.

My belly is definitely bigger this time around.
However, it is low and straight out.

Gender: Boy

3. Face Shape: When your face gets fuller and rounder when pregnant, it means you’re going to have a girl. If your face is long and narrow, it’s a boy.

My face is typically round in shape and I have full checks. This hasn't changed since I got pregnant

Gender: Inconclusive

4. Key Test: This test involves a key.  If you pick up a key at the top (the roundest part), you are going to have a boy.  If you pick up the key at the bottom (smallest part), you are going to have a girl.  If you happen to grab the key in the middle, congrats, it’s twins!

Same answer as last time:
My key ring has no less then a dozen keys on it. If I'm going for my car key, I pick it up from the top because that's where the plastic grip is. If I'm searching for my house key, office key, etc. I pick it up from the bottom because I need to file through the keys to find the right one.

Gender: Girl, only because I touch the bottoms of more keys then I do the tops.

5. Mayan Tale: The Mayan tale adds the mothers age at conception and the year of conception. If the result is a even number then mom is having a girl. If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way!

31 + 2014= 2045

Gender: Boy

6. Draino Test: The draino test combines a tablespoon of Drano and urine together. If the mixture turns green, it’s a girl. If it turns blue, it’s a boy.

I'm a licensed plumber, I don't believe in Drano so, no I won't be doing this.

7. Acne: If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl.

I have acne, always

Gender: Girl

8. Cravings: People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice , you are having a little girl.

Salty and Savory all the time. Give me chips, give me cheese, give me salsa, give me tacos!

Gender: Boy

9. Mom's Beauty: Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, you might just be having a little boy.

I think I have great hair and typically feel like I look pretty good. Just really pregnant.

Gender: Boy

10. Dreams: If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl.  If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy.  Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.

I have had zero baby dreams, how sad is that?

Gender: Inconclusive

11. Clumsy v Graceful: If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl.  If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy

Oh lord, give me grace

Gender: Boy

12. Sleeping Side: If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy.  If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl.

Left side typically means a better night sleep for me. Which is funny, because I normally sleep on my right.

Gender: Boy

13. Intuition: 71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having.

This baby is a boy until proven other wise.

Gender: Boy

14. Morning Sickness:
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.

No real morning sickness to speak of.

Gender: Boy

15. Meat Cravings: When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.

What did I just say?

Gender:  Boy.

16. Feet: Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl.

I am freezing 98% of the time.

Gender: Boy.

17. Leg Hair: If the hair on your legs has been growing at record speeds, you might be having a boy.

The hair on my head is growing at record speed, does that count?
On my legs? No real change

Gender: Inconclusive

18. Dry Hands: If your hands are constantly dry, it’s a boy.

I am dry skin everywhere

Gender: Boy

19. Pee: What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl.

Mine is usually almost clear thanks to the amount of water I'm drinking.

Gender: Inconclusive

20. Nose: Do you feel like your nose is growing and getting wider? If so, you might be having a boy.

Same answer as last time:
My nose was surgically altered many years ago. My doctor told me at the time it might stop growing. (Did you know your nose never stops growing?)

Gender: Inconclusive

21. Headaches: If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy

I great headaches if I get too hungry or miss a caffeine break

Gender: Boy

22. Hair: Has your hair become thinner and dull? Or full-bodied and glossy? Thin and dull says girl, gorgeous and glossy says a boy.

My hair has never looked better. I said that last time too.

Gender: Boy

23. Shettles Method:  Boy sperm swim faster but also die faster. Thus if you did the deed on or near ovulation day, you are more likely to have a boy. If you did the deed a few days before 0 day, you are likely having a girl. There are also clues based on positioning during the deed that I am not going into because no one needs those visuals stuck in their heads.

Details aside- Gender: Boy.

22 Weeks Update... on the 22nd....

Okay, I'm probably the only one that thinks that's pretty cool......

How far along are you:  22 Weeks- I know I say this frequently, but how is this happening?

Fruit: Spaghetti Squash.... not a fruit but still

Baby bump: It's loop sided today. Just like with Ryan, this baby loves to curl up on my right side.

Maternity Clothes: I'm taking great satisfaction in the fact that I can still wear my pregnancy yoga pants. I just have to tuck them under my bump.

Gender: I'm still very much leaning towards boy

Stretch Marks: Other then what is already there, nothing new

Sleep: This week I have slept like the dead. It's been fantastic.
Unfortunately charlie horses have been plaguing me a few minutes before my alarm goes off every morning. What a way to wake up.

Cravings: Ice Water, Ice Tea and Pineapple

What Makes Me Wanna Gag: Empty stomach

Exercise: Toddler Chasing and as I learned Friday night- vomiting is a great workout.

Mood: Relaxed yet excited to find out who's in there

Movement: This child- go, go, go all the live long day.... or should I say early morning and evening.

Favorite thing this week: Ryan has been my favorite thing this week. He's been so darn cute and so darn easy. He's just the best!

Excited For: We're supposed to get a lot of snow this weekend. I cannot wait! I love snow.

Continued basement painting..... it got put on hold this week between me being sick and then we had some snow yesterday that needed to be shoveled. Poor Mr. Berg has been busy.

Pregnancy and the Stomach Flu

Well, it finally happened....... I got the stomach flu.

I'd been dodging it since started making the rounds in early December. Scores of people I knew posting their woes on Facebook, entire rows of cublicles were empty in my friend's offices, attendance to my husband's Christmas party was down 50% because of it. I knew it was only a matter of time before it found me.

And found me it did.

Friday morning I woke up feeling like a million bucks. It was my last day pulling double duty at work, while my co-worker was on vacation. I had to attend a hearing in the morning, take care of my parent's small business as they too were on vacation and get the grocery shopping done before getting Ryan from school. Somehow, I managed to hit the hearing, take care of small business. grocery shop and put all the groceries away before picking up lunch at heading back into work.

I remember walking through the doors of my office at 1:36pm on the nose, feeling like super woman! I had conquered the bulk of my to-do list. I was ready to face the afternoon! Bring on the weekend! I was rocking it.

Two and a half hours later, I slunk out of my office, on my way to show a rental property, completely unsure if my lunch hated me or if I was dying....

By 6pm, I knew it was the stomach flu and there was nothing I could do but wait it out. Nothing adds the stomach flu experience like a toddler hanging out in the bathroom with you while you call to the dinosaurs. Mama, again? Again! Yay!!!...... Mama? I hold your hand...... Mama, I go watch Monsters..... Mama, okay?

Where is your father, child?

And worse, just when your stomach gives a reprieve for a few minutes, the unborn kicks it, thus setting off another chain reaction of fun.

I won't even go into the lack of bladder control....

It was 24 hours of serious fun, let me tell you.
Thankfully, Sunday morning, I woke up feeling amazing.... until I woke up Monday morning.

Right back where I started from.

According to my doctor, I need to relax and rest.

Who's got time for that?

I conducting business from my sofa Monday afternoon.
Today I'm back in the office until it's either time to pick up the boy OR I start feeling bad.

Hopefully, I'm back to being on the up and up.
Fingers Crossed!

Weighing In on Weight.....

I'm just going to come out and say it.....

I feel like a house and I'm only 21 weeks into this whole deal. It is gross.

I look down at my belly and while I am so, so excited to be growing a life in there, I cannot believe how huge it is already. I wasn't this big until the third trimester with Ryan.  My hips and pelvis are already getting sore. My hamstrings are constantly tight. It's just plain no fun.

I feel bad complaining about any of this. I'm only half way through this whole process. I am so lucky to be pregnant, so lucky to be without complications. I know I just need to be happy with who I am and what is happening with my body.

I also need to give myself a massive dose of reality:

1. Second pregnancies show faster.... in my case it just happens to be happening at warp speed

2. My weight gain has been steady and consistent. (And well within normal limits) Just what my doctor wanted for this go around.
3. While the number on the scale scared me, I weighed more when I got pregnant this time around. So duh, the number will be higher then it was this point in my pregnancy last time.
4. I'm eating lots of healthy foods and staying hydrated. What more can I ask for?

In other words, I need to knock this shit off!

21 Week Update

How far along are you:  21 Weeks- which is seriously blind blowing to the woman that is spending half her days in pregnancy denial.

Fruit: Pomegranate... pretty cool

Baby bump: Augh.... I wore a purple lace dress to an event last week. I looked like a purple people eater in pictures... So yeah, it's there

Maternity Clothes: See above

Gender: I'm still very much leaning towards boy

Stretch Marks: Other then what is already there, nothing new

Sleep: Either really good or really terrible. There is no inbetween

Cravings: Ice Water

What Makes Me Wanna Gag: Empty stomach

Exercise: Toddler Chasing

Mood: Relaxed

Movement: We have a mover and a shaker in there. It's super cute

Favorite thing this week: Seeing my OB this week. He put any fears we might be harboring to rest for the time being. I hate to say we are just waiting for something to go wrong. But essentially, we are. We have been/ continue to be as proactive as possible. Now we just wait and see what happens.

Excited For: The big ultrasound in a couple of weeks.
In other news...
Bring on the weekend.

Mr. Berg is painting our basement so we don't have to stare at ugly red walls anymore.

Lately...

Life in bullet points and small paragraphs:

  • On Monday I had my 20 week doctor's apt with my OB. Prior to Monday I had been visiting everyone else in the practice and had yet to actually see my doctor. Needless to say, I was excited to see him and get his thoughts on my pregnancy and our plan. As of right now, there is no plan. There isn't even a need for a plan. All my labs look great, my blood pressure is lower this time then it was last time (and at this point last time it was low) and there is absolutely no need to worry until there's reason to worry.
  • Thus, we are not worried.... okay, I'm worried but I'm trying to ignore my worries and focus on all the good things that are happening.
  • My partner is crime at work is off all week and I am not dealing.... She does all the stuff I don't like doing. Thus, I'm doing all the stuff I don't like doing begrudgingly.
  • Mr. Berg is doing the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. He's on day 3 and he's rocking it. Why is he rocking it? Because I'm cooking all his food and preparing all this snacks.... Okay, I kid, but I am doing the cooking and the prepping- with his input. It's been pretty fun.
  • Since the holiday sugar rush is over, I'm trying very hard to focus on pretty quality meals and snacks. I think the 24 Day Challenge is rubbing off on me :)
  • Ryan is really into talking and singing lately. It's pretty hysterical. He loves to sing the ABC song, however, he adds 13,14,15,16 in around L,M,N,O,P. Too funny
  • Alright, lots to do and zero time in which to do it.
Have a great day.

Half Way Point- 20 Week Update

How far along are you:  20 Weeks! We could totally do a happy dance and say "Half Way Point Party" but I was reminded this morning that Ryan was 8 days overdue and could have easily stayed put for another week had he not been evicted. So there's that.....

Fruit: Baby is the length of banana

Baby bump: It's there.

Maternity Clothes: Yeah.... still doing the maternity clothes deal.

Gender: A friend of my mine guessed girl the other day. But I think that's more wishful thinking then anything.... My guess is still boy.

Stretch Marks: Nothing new

Sleep: Pretty well

Cravings: Ice Water

What Makes Me Wanna Gag: Other then the empty stomach problem, nothing really bothers me.

Exercise: Chasing Ryan

Mood: Feeling better good

Movement: This kid is starting to really move and groove. It's really cute.

Favorite thing this week: Mr. Berg finished painting our half bath, Ryan's room is finally finished.... he's almost 2 1/2, that's beside the point..... All of our Christmas decor is put away and our house is finally feeling back to normal.
Oh and we bought a new dishwasher to replace the crappy, half broken one we currently own.

Excited For: Grammy and Grandpa are taking Ryan for the weekend. Sleep, glorious sleep!!

In other news...

Here are some of the random observations that have been floating around my head lately:

I used to think Baby Berg v2.0 was just a quieter kid then his/her older brother. Then I looked back on posts from this point in my first pregnancy and I realized that Ryan didn't move that much at this point either. We are just getting into the moving portion of this pregnancy.

I also had it stuck in my head that Ryan's heart rate was faster, it was not.
He was always in the 140s, same as Baby Berg v2.0.

I'm much sorer at this point in my pregnancy then I was last time. My hips and pelvis are sore most of the time. I feel bad even mentioning it because I know it will probably get much, much worse before it gets better.

Food is the least exciting thing in my world right now. This happened last time too and it's annoying. I typically love to eat, I love new restaurants, I love to try new things. Right now: nope.
Mr. Berg and I are getting ready for a weekend getaway and I'm supposed to pick the restaurants. I can't even get excited about them. Nothing looks appealing. It is so sad.

I'm getting more and more excited every day to find out who's really in there. 3 weeks from Friday!!
