The Nose That Smells Everything

And 9 times out of 10, it ain't pretty.

Salad dressing is my new enemy.... its not just limited to ranch anymore. Poor Mr. Berg tried to take pity on my dog nosed self and switch up his dressing choice last night. Poppy Seed..... it was a no go.

This morning may have taken the cake. There I was just minding my own business, sitting at a table waiting for my conference to start, praising myself for looking so nice with my black sweater, and my cute Lilly Pulitzer Coffee Tumbler. The conference starts, everyone in the room is quiet a church mice, listening intently to the speaker, taking notes, when in came the idiot that smelled like pot.

Of course he decided sitting next to me is the best possible location in all the room to sit.  I mean I know I'm cute and all, my smile is incredibly charming and I always share my extra pens. But seriously, there are 10 tables to pick from, I'm sitting in the middle row, in the middle seat. There are like 30 open spaces behind me. What gives? (CUE THE SIDE EYE FROM J-BERG)

Not to mention: we are in a  Healthcare Reform Conference . WTF. Why on earth would you come to a conference full of HR Professionals, Attorneys and Business Professionals smelling like you just came rolling out of a Howard and Kumar movie set? FOR REAL!

The Icing the Cake.... I valet parked my car this morning..... because it was free and I'm lazy.
The valet that returned my car to me..... oh I gag just thinking about it...... cheap ass, dollar store, on sale at that, cologne.

Talk about windows down, system up! There I went rolling down Center City of Small Town USA in my SUV, Cosmo Radio blarring and it's like 34 degrees outside.

My rapper name? Dog Nose J-Berg!

My poor child, four weeks and one day into this journey and he/she has already been exposed to pot, cheap cologne and frigid temps. I bet she/he is just floating around in there thinking "wow, I picked a real winner didn't I?"

Sorry Baby Berg, how can Mama make it up to you.... grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch? You got it!

Giddy

I called my Doctor's Office about an hour ago to see if my blood test results had arrived.

I repeated my name, birthdate, address and social over the phone to a very kind lady and practiced deep breathing as she asked me to wait one moment as she looked up my results.

"Okay," she smiled into the phone. "It's positive, congratualtions!"

"Thank You" I whispered.

10 minutes later I hung up the phone with a new appointment in my agenda. I was also give the extension number to the super secret triage line and told to take my prenatal vitamins and get plenty of rest.

Our first appointment is just after Thanksgiving.
We had orginally planned to tell Mr. Berg's immediate and closest family at Thanksgiving. Depending on how I feel, we still may do that. We had orginally hoped to see the doctor prior to our trip, but as the nurse on the phone said "There's not that much to see before 8 weeks."

I am giddy.
I knew Baby Berg was in there. But now it's really real! There are appointments and talk of vitamins and getting lots of rest.

It is real. We are so incredibly thankful for all of this.

Growing Baby Berg Day 3

We are three days into this whole "having a baby" thing.

I haven't had a whole lot of true pregnancy symptoms so far.
I've had a few waves of nausea. There was the dry heaving of the snickers bar incident. But otherwise, the only things I'm aware of asare that I'm not very hungry, I only eat when I remind myself, I get full really quickly, I'm unreasonably cold after eating and I'm typically ready to pass out by 9:30pm.

So basically, it's lfe as usual, minus the whole not hungry thing.

I have had no real interest in anything sugary or sweet. Even my go to vice, diet pepsi, isn't interesting to me. My diet dr. peppr at lunch yesterday tasted bland. This is a very foreign concept to me.... not interested in soda?

Mr. Berg is so excited. He can't stop touching my stomach or asking me questions or smiling at me. He is also very, very nervous. His anxiety is at an all time high. My hope it that things calm down for him soon. He's going to drive himself nuts.

It's been fun keeping this secret. Only one other person knows, my friend E. She is sworn to secrecy and I know she'll keep it. It's been fun regaling her with tales of pregnancy and my thoughts on things.
I had my verification blood test yesterday morning. I'll call the doctor's office for confirmation results later today. I'm excited to get our first appointment scheduled. I get irrationally worried sometimes. I often equate my lack of symptons with Baby Berg not being there. But the stick in which I peed on today proved, yet again, Baby Berg is in there.

July..... I  can't beleive it.....

My Life's Work is Complete

Jessica Simpson and I are pregnant at the same time.

::throws confetti::

And Mr. Berg is thrilled to pieces to know that Baby Berg will be arriving in July. Seriously, he couldn't be happier. In fact, as I was getting ready for work today he told me I looked like someone's mom..... in a good way (he was sure to throw that part in there).

And so, today is day #2 of life with Baby Berg.

So far:
- I can smell ranch dressing from several rooms away. This was my first real hint that something was amiss
- Water is my BFF
-Baby Berg doesn't like candy however, pumpkin spice coffee is okay... good to know
- I'm still waking up at 4am and find myself unable to go back to sleep
-I pee about 20 more times a day then I did before.... and I thought I peed a lot 'back in the day
- Mr. Berg and I are currently planning a baby moon.

As of 1:58pm...
This baby also doesn't like
-Diet Dr. Pepper
-McDonald's Southwest Salad (which used to be my favorite)
-Snickers Bars.... which should go up there with the whole "candy" catagory but it's additionally noted since I dry heaved the one bite I ate in the parking lot at work.

The Greatest Secret I'll Ever Keep

Dear Baby Berg-

I woke up an hour before my alarm this morning and I couldn't stop wondering if you were real or not. I snuggled in the covers and sent up a silent prayer, asking God to keep to safe, if you were in fact, on the way.

A little while later I found myself in the bathroom wondering "is that a line?" And a smile and a internal nod later, a knew it was true. You are in there. Welcome aboard, Baby.

Your Daddy is going to be so excited tonight when he finds out you're on the way. He hasn't stopped asking about you since the day we decided we wanted to try for you. I think he already has his suspicions, but Mama wasn't sure you were real until this morning.  I know I could have told him about you this morning, but I wanted to make it special for him. So, for now, it's just you and me.

I hope, sweet Baby, that you are ready for the crazy life you are going to be born into. Mama's a 5th generation contractor. I work at a big, crazy construction company full of life, stress, loud noises, cool tools and a whole cast of colorful and exciting people. Although, I'm pretty sure those exciting people are going to teach a few choice words a lot faster then I'll be ready for you to learn.... I guess that's why I described them as colorful.

Dad is a salesman, and a darn good one too. He works so hard to ensure that we have a good life. He really loves his job and it's a really good fit for him. Just wait til you see him in action, you'll completely agree.
Together your Daddy and I are total opposites and a just the right fit. Dad's forever organized, well planned and pretty even keeled. As your mama, I can tell you, that might get annoying sometimes. But that's okay, because you'll also have me. I'm a pretty organized, but I'm also kind of a mess. I'm easily excitable, distracted and some times I fear a bit scattered. But I always try my best and for that, I think I've made a pretty awesome life for your Dad and I.

And just wait until you meet your grandparents and your uncle. You're going to be the luckiest kid out there. Dad's parents live in Atlanta, so you might not see them as much, but trust me they'll make it worth your while when you do get to see them. My parents live just up the road, and boy oh boy, are they going to smoother you in love and attention and laughter. They were the coolest parents a kid could have growing up, they'll be just a cool as grandparents, if not cooler.

And Uncle J. He's the only one you've got! Daddy's an only child, Uncle J is my only brother. He's got a big job to do, but trust me, he's ready for the challenge. If you're a boy, he'll teach you everything you ever needed to know about sports. If you're a girl, I'm willing to bet he can throw an awesome tea party too.

So Baby, that's just the beginning of the story. But I want you to know. Whoever you are, whatever you turn out to be, your Daddy and I love you! We can't wait to meet you and watch you grow.

Stay safe in there. Stick tight and we'll see you in July.

All my love,
Mama

3am

The past two mornings I have woken up at 3am and have stayed awake until my alarm goes off two and half hours later.

I have no idea why this happens, all I know, is that it's really, really annoying.

Sunday morning I woke up because my boobs hurt like crazy.

Monday morning I woke up because my boobs weren't hurting, then I noticed I had cramps, then I noticed my boobs were hurting again and then my craps went away. This happened in the span for 10 minutes.... I know, I've lost my ever loving mind.

Today, I feel mostly the same. My boobs are still sore. Sometimes its a deep down sore, other times its more of a superficial ache. However, cramps have begun showing up. As they did this time last cycle. My fear is that my lutuel phase is too short, leaving no time for implantation, even if an egg was fertilized.

Obviously, I'm a little over obsessed over this.

And obviously, I'm way too Type A to get over it.

I'm going to wear myself out if I'm not careful.

In other news, I've been doing really sticking to a healthier diet, getting more exercise in and even lowering the amount of caffeine in my system (gasp!).

Yesterday, I had one soda.

THAT NEVER HAPPENS

A lot of my middle of the night pondering have been over pregnancy and how I'm going to hide it.
Originally, I thought I wouldn't want to hide it. However, with this two week wait and brought on a whole new set of feelings. I don't want people to know too early. I like the idea of keep my secret safe for a while.

I fear Thanksgiving, well I always fear Thanksgiving, my I fear it more this year because I'm worried about being pregnant. If I'm pregnant, how will I hide it. The whole family is already anxious to hear pregnancy news. They've all been asking. It worries me. It worries me to my very core.

I guess I know why I'm awake at 3am.
Stupid family!
