And then I got food posioning....

This weekend Mr. Berg and I traveled to DC to visit my best friend E and her husband Chippy. I was worried about making healthy decisions and keeping my alcohol consumption in check.

What I should have worried about was how to not ingest whatever it was that has made me so sick.

From Sunday morning around 1am  through 7pm yesterday I was nothing more then a hot mess.
If it could come out of my body, believe me, it did this weekend.

I've spent most of today worried about re hydrating myself and trying to get some calories in my system. Right now I'm achy and lethargic and feeling poorly. However, I have noticed a big chance it how I've felt from yesterday at this time until now.

Tomorrow I hope to just worry about healthy eating instead of worry about what color my pee is.
Oh the things we worry about, or the things my mother prompts me to worry about I should say.

If I'm feeling up to it, Wednesday I'll hit the workout routine again. If I'm not, I'll push it to Thursday.

But for right now. I'm going to worry about drinking water.
Water, water and more water....

200 Posts Later

Well, hot damn! It's my 200th post ya'll.

I should probably have prepared an outline for a well written post complete with insights into my soul, witty comments and stary gazes at my hopes and dreams for the future.

Instead, you're going to hear about how much I hated the month of June, the events I'm looking forward to and why I'm not so worried about my weight anymore.

NO WAY!

First things first, June:

June Sucked!

From unexpected deaths, to the vacation from hell and overly busy schedules. Mr. Berg and I haven't had a much time for ourselves as we would have liked. We spent a majority of the month running around like chickens with our heads cut off.

Even our wedding anniversary kinda sucked. Mr. Berg was sick and I sick of hearing about how he was sick. So, everyone was sick with or of something.
Lovely!

I had never been so happy to see July 1st in my whole life.

Events I'm Looking Forward To:
Two weeks from tomorrow Mr. Berg and I will head south for a good friend's wedding. Truth be told, we haven't bought a wedding gift yet.
Another truth be told: We aren't 100% sure this wedding is taking place.

So, I'm not obsessing about what I'm going to wear or how I should do my hair. Instead, as the event grows closer and it does in fact appear to be happening, I'll pull out a dress that will hopefully fit and I'll regift something for the "happy" couple.

August will provide two weekends at the Shore. One for Labor Day and one for Mr. President's Birthday.

Then comes September. My birthday. I'll be 10 pounds skinner this birthday!

And finally,  a weekend in Vegas with The Mama and Mr. President for my cousin's wedding.

I'm probably the most excited about this one and it's for totally vain reasons.
I won't go into details, you'll think less of me.

Why I'm Not So Worried About My Weight:

I've been hovering on or around the same weight for a while now. I've come to the decision that it might be where my body wants to be. If that's the case. I welcome it.

However, I need to work on being more fit. There's a little more flub on my body then I'd like to see. There a little less muscle definition then I'm comfortable with.

And so, I challenge myself to find a way to incorporate three types of effective workouts into my weekly routine.

Cardio Weight Training- Firm Work Outs Essentially

Straight Cardio- Running, Dancing, A Few Firm Work Outs
Yoga/Pilates- A Good Stretch Never Hurt Anyone.

With my increased focus on staying in shape versus losing weight I would like to say one thing. I haven't given up on WW. I haven't stopped tracking and I haven't stopping monitoring what goes in my mouth.
It is my hope that those things never stop for me. I am a hardcore believer in weight watchers. I am a FIRMBeliver. I hope the tools I have found through both of these life styles never leave me. I hope to incorporate these tools into my life for the rest of my life.

The destination to a healthy, active life hasn't changed. The journey to get there hasn't changes. It's just a different terrain. I'll always be trying, I'll always be challenging myself.

And I love that.

Today is a Good Day

This morning was my first "big run" on C2 5K.

I had to run for 20 minutes straight.

This was big deal for J-Berg.
All in all I did great. I never felt the need to stop. I never felt like death, I never uttered the praise "eff my feet, who needs them."
I won't say it was easy, it was hard. It was very hard. But I just kept pushing myself and in the end, it all paid off. The smile that spread across my face when the woman on the ap said "Cool Down" could be seen smiles away.

After a great run, a nice shower and some relaxation at home, I went to work.
The first day of the month is always an exciting day at Family Owned Inc.
It's Random Drug Test Assignment Day.
This means there's an email waiting for me with the computer generated picks for random testing for the month.
Guess who's name was on the list: MINE!!

In the three years we've been running the program, my name has never been on the list.
I literally jumped up and down and screamed "it's finally my turn."

Trust me: no one was more excited about peeing in a cup today then me.

The rest of my day was quiet and calm.

This afternoon I gave out jello shooter recipes.

Tonight, I'll be at the beach.
And this morning I lost 1.4 pounds.

No complaining here. Today is a good day.

Enough is Enough

When it comes to my eating habits lately, the only thing I can say is this:

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

I can't begin to explain how disappointed I am in myself. I've literally sabotages myself to the nth degree.

Four weeks ago I felt strong and toned and in charge and dare I say sexy?
Today I feel fat, bloated and doughy.

And I have no one to blame but myself.
Too much fat, too much sugar, to much wine, too much EVERYTHING.

I know tomorrow is a new day. I know I can change my fate, I know I am turn it around.
But tonight I am mad and there's nothing I can do to change that.
I'll give myself the evening to literally kick my own ass.

Tomorrow, I am going to get up and give it another go.
I can't change the past. But I sure as hell can control my future.

I Wish I Could Explain It

I have a secret. I've casually mentioned it here a time or two.
I've alluded to the fact that it might be happening. That I might actually really do it.

And I have....

I've become addicted to running.
Not just any running. Early morning, when the neighborhood is quiet, just me and my ipod, running.
I wish I could explain why I love it so much.
I wish I could put into words what it means to me.
However, there is just something about slipping out of the house in the quiet of the morning to pound the pavement.
I'm fortunate enough to live in a mega hood- there's probably 125 homes in my development. This makes for lots of sidewalks, lots of streets, plenty of cars and a few thousand kids. From 8am to 8pm on a good weather day, there is always a kid to be found somewhere.

At 5:30am, my neighborhood is still. All I can see are sleepy houses and the occasional early morning riser, driving out of the neighborhood or taking their dog for an early morning walk.

Aside from the music pumping into my ears, the only sounds I hear are the rhythmic beat of my feet hitting the pavement and the sound of my own breathing.

I relish in being alone with my thoughts. I can think as little or as much as I like. Sometimes I work out the hard problems at work or in my personal life, other times I debate the importance of rice or couscous for dinner or what I should wear to work that morning.
I can feel the heat from my body as it begins to sweat. I feel my lungs expand a little larger as my running picks up. The tension in my joints, muscles and within my soul begins to fade as I run down the road. Before long, despite my increased breathing and sweaty body, I am at peace. Just me, the road and the music that moves me.

I love those thirty minutes. I love that it's just me.
And for that brief stretch of time, it doesn't matter how many things are on my to-do list at work or how much laundry is piled up outside the laundry closet. I don't worry about how I haven't called my best friend back yet or if the boulders hanging over my head are grazing the top of my scalp or not.

I run for my health, for the stress relief and for the fun of it.
I run to hear my favorite songs, I listen to their lyrics and I imprint them on my soul.
I run to remind myself that I am strong and capable and just a little bit scared at times
I run to feel alive, to listen to my own thoughts and to heal my sometimes broken heart.
I run because to me, it has become my church, my spiritually moment, my time alone with myself, with God.
I run to push myself further and work my body hard.
I run.....

Here's the Catch

I stood on the scale this morning only to discover that I hadn't lost a thing. I stayed exactly the same. No loss, no gain, just the same.
"This isn't working," I grumbled as I laced up my running shoes for my early morning run.

I was half way down the block when it hit me. WW does work. It's me who isn't working for it.
Sure, I've made excuses about a hurt foot, but I've also eaten proportions that I shouldn't, drank more then 3 points of wine in a sitting, and my tracking could only be considered half assed at best.

WW isn't to blame.
J-Berg is.

I can make all the excuses I want, but what truly counts is the effort I put towards my endevours.

June

Dear June-

I hate to break it to you, but so far you kinda suck.

First their was the death of Mr. Berg's favorite uncle. With that came family drama, stress and of course a million unplanned expenses.

Then there was work. Which was more stressful then I can even say.

And then my best friend's wedding, which was amazing is so many ways- both wonderful and terrible.

And now there's more stress, jam packed scheduled that can't be lessened and a very sick Mr. Berg. Try as he may, that poor man just can't seem to get healthy.

I would really appreciate it June if you'd just hurry up and move along.

July has to be better then this. July appears calmer. In July I might actually be able to stay on point and on track. I'd really like that June, I'd like to not fall apart.

Think you can handle that?

Much Love,
JBerg
