Sleep regression still sucks donkey balls.....
Ryan was up at 10:30pm, 11:30pm through 12:15, up again at 12:45 and stayed awake until I finally made him cry is out around 1:30am.
I'm not a huge fan of the cry it out method but I believe it has its place. As it did last night.
Unfortunately, when Ryan's cries it out, so does Mr. Berg.
Which means I have to talk him down from the ledge while Ryan goes ape shit in the next room because he can hear his daddy talking.
I very well may be at the nearest Holiday Inn tonight. The drama kings can have each other.
Where's the wine?
Does anyone have any toothpicks? I need to prop my eyelids open for the remainder of the day.

Cha-Cha-Cha- Changes.....
Once upon a time, I was pregnant and stressing over how I would further my career while caring for a child I desperately wanted to stay home with. I felt caught between a rock and a hard place. Sure, I was facing the struggle a lot of women face when they have careers and children. Yet, is a little bit different. I own the business that holds my job.
On top of all of this, Ryan is thriving at daycare. He loves the interaction with other children and the structure of the day. There's just a few problems: his daycare isn't open on Fridays or through the summer. Add to that, it's 20 minutes in the opposite direction of everywhere I need to be.
When we signed on for at the home based daycare he is at now, we knew that it was only a temporary solution to a long term problem. Mr. Berg and I knew we were facing another epic daycare search sooner then later if we didn't soon get news a spot opened up on one of our many waiting lists.
On one hand I want to be a stay at home mom, just like my mom was. I loved having her home with me when I was young. I loved that she was the one that picked me up and dropped me off at pre-school, kindergarten and beyond. It was something I knew from a young age was special and I wanted to provide the same for my child.
Yet, on the other hand I have worked very hard for many years to educate myself and earn my name in the business world. The fight is still in me to further my career and grow the business that my family has owned and worked in for 5 generations. A business and a job that I love very much. Not to mention we need my income and my benefits, too!
I knew I would be a working mom, I just didn't know how I was going to make it work. Through a lot of negotiations and tears, I was able to secure my 12 weeks of maternity leave and a work week that allowed me to work 36 hours a week in the office and 4 from home. I've been doing exactly that since I returned to work in early October 2012. It hasn't always been easy but it has worked for us. I have loved my Fridays at home but as Ryan grows and becomes more active and more curious, the task of working for the business and for the home on Friday has become more and more challenging.
My responsibilities at work have been increasing 10 fold, my need to be in the office has grown and I've finding it harder and harder to balance it all when I'm missing that extra day of desk time. It's been a large source of my stress, sleepless nights and disorganization. It's also been the reason for lots and lots prayers on my daily commute.

My prayers were answered on Friday when we received a phone call with the good news we've been waiting for for many months. There was a spot open at our first choice daycare. The one located 10 minutes from my office, on my way into work. The one with a high teacher to student ratio, with an awesome playground and Center Director that we fell in love with.
Ryan starts on Martin Luther King Day. While I am nervous over yet another transition for our sweet boy, I know he's ready. He loves the activities he does at his current center. He'll have even more at his new center. He loves being around children his own age and he will be thrilled to have so many new friends.
While I will certainly miss our Ry-Day Fridays, it is certainly time to go back to a five day work week and the structure that provides.
Although I'm starting to worry how I'm going to get my laundry and errands done..... Friday was always housework day.... on top of everything else.....
Wish us luck as we transition into our new schedule and our new daily routine.

Sweet Child of Mine....
Hide your wife, hide your children, dig out the Xanax and wine....
The 18 Month Sleep Regression has hit the Berg household. How lucky are we?
My sweet child, who normally goes to bed at 7:30pm without a fuss and sleps soundly until 6:30-7:30am has suddenly become a howler monkey. He kicks, screams and carries on for all diaper changes, screams to high heavens whenever someone mentions the word "bedtime" and has now decided that somewhere between 4-5am would be an awesome time to wake up.
And by wake up, I mean he silently wakes, stands up, goes to the side of his crib and screams bloody-freaking- murder until someone comes to get him. He will then put his tired little head on your shoulder, lull you into a false sense of security as you think he's going back to bed, only to scream his head off once more until you finally cave and turn on Sesame Street.
WTF?
I think we're all a little shell shocked by this latest endeavor. Seriously, one minute you are sleeping peacefully in your warm bed and then BAM! screaming toddler.
So, needless to say, there was no working out for this girl this morning. Instead, there was a lot of "holy shitting" and "now what are we going to do?" panicking.
Truthfully, this has been going on for the better part of the week, but someone really had their game face on this morning. That and Mr. Berg and I never read the parenting books so we had no idea this was coming.
There was no Sesame Street this morning. In a brief flash of smart parenting, we decided that waking up at the ass crack of dawn does not equal extra TV time. So, instead of quiet tv watching, we gave ourselves a screaming, crying, hysterical leg barnacle that we kept passing back and forth.
Fun, right?
Methinks I'm going to need a new game plan..... or ear plugs..... maybe both?
From what I've read this can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Ohsweetpreciousbabyjesus No!

Lighting a Fire Under My Own Ass
That's it! I've officially declared that enough is enough!
I'm tired of being tired, of being sick, of feeling blue/disorganized/ twitchy etc. Enough, is enough. All of it is related to my current lack of exercise, healthy eating and routine. I'm over it.
Girlfriend needs to get back on the working out, menu/meal planning, fully stocked fridge wagon....
And it begins tomorrow morning.
I'm dragging my butt out of bed at the ungodly hour of 4:30am and getting back to it. Works out that is. Since I'm still recovering from being sick and I'm feeling pretty tense and miserable I decided to start with some Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown. The videos typically last 30 minutes, which is just right since Ryan has been waking up ungodly early lately. I need to be available to help Mr. Berg should he wake up early.
(He will..... Sesame Street at 5am makes me stabby, just an FYI)
(Why is my son a terrible teether?)
While it's certainly not perfect, it's a start and lord knows we all start somewhere.
I'm still working out my upcoming rotation, as we work into next week. I'm not trying to find a hard and fast routine right this minute. Things be changing around the 'Berg house soon, so I'll be modifying as our routines change. More on that later... but for now I'm leaning towards focusing on accomplishing the following daily/ weekly:

More on that later... but for now I'm leaning towards focusing on accomplishing the following daily/ weekly:
- working out 5 days a week
- clean eating 80% of the time
- sticking to lean proteins and vegetables only at dinner time. I find the simpler I eat at dinner time, the better I sleep and the better I feel through out the day
- drinking one gallon of water (or more) every day
- stop eating after my toddler
While I'm sure many of these things will be easier said then done, it's my focus. I'm feeling so doughy and gross right now. I know it's all from my own doing. Dropping my workouts and throwing healthy eating out the window was clearly a dumb decision.
Onward and upward, I say (and downward on the scale, right?)

Bring it on!

And Now Back to Regularly Scheduled Life....
I feel like I really haven't slowed down or sat down since early November. Between traveling for Thanksgiving, Ryan being sick, the holiday season, daycare winter break, etc. etc. My life is totally upside down. I was so thrilled to get back to routine Sunday night and then the stomach bug hit.
This morning I dragged myself into work looking and feeling like I have been trapped in a well. Why are the lights so bright? Why is the air so cold? Gloves, what are gloves? What day is it? Never in my life have I been so happy to just sit at my desk, make my do-to list and check my voice mail. Structure at it's finest people.
I wish I had more exciting things to talk about or information to share. But honestly, I just want to eat solid foods and go home tonight feeling like I accomplished something.
Tomorrow I will not be working out. I'm going to give myself one more day of solid rest and (hopefully) solid foods before I hit the workout wagon.... slowly. We're talking yoga and low impact cardio, people. I'll set out to save the world next week. I do have that Bahamas trip coming up, after all.
Onward!

Famous Last Words...
Last night as Mr. Berg and I were getting ready for bed, I laid out my workout clothes, sports bra, sock and shoes and exclaimed "I can't wait to get back on the workout wagon in the morning!"
Famous last words.....
I really meant them too. I had my workout rotation all figured out. I had big plans for workout video review blog posts, a funny Jillian Micheals story, the whole deal....
And then I woke up at 2:45am with the stomach flu.
Cool, right?
Or not........
I've been awake since 2:45am and I'm so far consumed 2 pieces of toast, a mug of mint tea, and some water. All of which left the party shortly thereafter.
Isn't that nice?
The worst part? There is literally nothing good on TV. NOTHING!!
And the DVR is full of shows that Mr. Berg and I watch together.... as in DON'T TOUCH.
So, stay tuned for a post that doesn't talk about puke.
I promise, things will liven up around here soon..... I hope.

But I Don't Wanna Talk About New Year's Resolutions....
{insert whine about how I never stick with New Year's Resolutions anyway.....)
I really don't. I start them, and go with them until I end up modifying them, changing them, or switching them out for something that works better and in the end, I've ended up doing something, just not exactly what I set out to do. Like the time I went shopping for new pants and ended up with 5 sweaters...... and no pants.
It just happens that way sometimes.
So, instead of focusing on large goals, mega resolutions, etc. etc. I've decided to focus on basic goals to ensure a happy 2014.
In my head I've broken 2014 into the following parts:
January- Mid March- Bahamas Prep
Mid March- Rock super cute new bikini in Bahamas
Rest of March- Recover from Bahamas
March- June- Prepare Body and Mind for Pregancy #2
June- However Long It Takes- Stay as healthy as possible why trying for baby #2
Once I'm Pregnant: Have minor freak out and focus on a fit pregnancy.
So, yeah, if you're going to hang out out here in 2014 you're going to have to read about what I'm eating, how I'm working out and what's going on with my vagina.... So basically, nothing new :)
I am so excited for 2014. But I'm so bogged down both personally and professional with so much shit right now. My plan for the weekend is to get organized, get my head right and hit the ground running with new workouts, new recipes, and a new attitude.
So, stick with my folks. My new year starts Monday!
